Social Monkey is a social media agency based in the Sackhouse, a newly-developed building in the centre of Wells-Next-the-Sea providing office space to small businesses and start-ups. The agency uses platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to communicate messages from businesses to its customers to increase awareness of their clients’ brand or business, and to help them engage with their customers and the wider world.
Melanie Harriss, Managing Director of Social Monkey, said: “As an online business, we have to upload lots of images and video to clients’ social media platforms, which can be quite a slow procedure with our current internet connection. At times I’ve been unable to work in our Wells office as the internet is too weak for Skype meetings. I love the Sackhouse – it has beautiful offices in a fantastic location – but the one thing I’m always moaning about is the broadband! So the change to better broadband will make a huge difference to Social Monkey.
“I think there will also be a shift for the wider community. Local people are starting to realise how much more they’ll be able to do, day-to-day, now that Wells is better connected – such as being able to Skype their families or watch films online. For businesses, their point of sale, research, website updates etc. rely on a good internet connection. Where we’ve all struggled and found the internet laborious in the past, hopefully now it’ll be something we can all use more effectively.”
